Canada listed the proposed Pacific Link oil pipeline as a project of national interest under the Building Canada Act on October 1. Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the decision in Fort McMurray alongside Alberta Premier Danielle Smith. The project would carry one million barrels of crude daily from Bruderheim, Alberta, to a deepwater port near Delta, British Columbia, for overseas export. Indigenous communities will be offered at least 10% ownership. Federal review, public hearings and further Indigenous consultation remain ahead, with the government aiming to finalize project conditions by September 1, 2027.
