Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court building in Brasília, with curved white columns, a paved plaza, flagpoles and a justice sculpture, based on an archival May 2012 photograph; institutional context rather than a depiction of the October 2026 funding allegations or investigation request, rendered in warm ochre and slate-blue pastel strokes.

Brazil’s attorney general’s office asked the Federal Police and federal prosecutors on October 1 to investigate alleged U.S. funding for groups challenging the Supreme Court. The request followed reporting about a $1 million program called “Countering Lawfare and Censorship in Brazil”. The office said investigators should identify any Brazilian recipients and assess possible offences if the allegations are confirmed, while acknowledging lawful freedom of expression and criticism. The recipients were not identified in the reporting, and the U.S. government did not immediately answer requests for further details.
