Scottish blogger and activist Jagtar Singh Johal has been released on bail in India after nearly nine years in detention, Reprieve said Thursday. He had been detained since November 2017, after travelling to India to marry. Reprieve said proceedings against him continue and could result in capital punishment. The organization said his bail conditions restrict his movement, association and ability to speak freely. His brother witnessed him leaving prison, while Reprieve said it would continue working with his legal team to seek dismissal of the charges and his return to his family.
