Oman Tells UN the Regional War Could Have Been Avoided, Vows to Safeguard Hormuz Shipping

Oman's Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi told the UN General Assembly in New York on Saturday that the region had witnessed, at the beginning of this year, "a war that could have been avoided." He said the escalation had come to threaten the security of regional states and paralyse navigation and trade through the Strait of Hormuz, undermining energy security, price stability and confidence in the international order. Albusaidi said Oman remains committed to safeguarding navigation in the strait under international law and the Law of the Sea, and called on all parties to cooperate. He renewed Oman's solidarity with Gulf Cooperation Council states and urged self-restraint and dialogue.
