Jaishankar Tells UN India's Right to Defend Itself Against Terrorism 'Will Be Exercised'

India's External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar told the UN General Assembly on Saturday that "a serial practitioner of terrorism misrepresented facts before this Assembly" the day before, without naming Pakistan. "Our right to defend ourselves against terrorism will be exercised," he said. He added that friendship and goodwill cannot coexist with terrorism, and understandings premised on that will "naturally be called into question." Jaishankar called state-sponsored cross-border terrorism "a direct affront to the global order." On Friday, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had told the Assembly that any Indian attempt to stop or divert Pakistan's share of the Indus waters would be treated as an act of war.
