Iran Says It Sent War Demands to U.S. Through Qatari Mediator

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said on September 23 that Tehran conveyed its demands to the United States through a Qatari mediator during contacts around the UN General Assembly in New York. He said Iran sought an end to the war on all fronts, a halt to what he called U.S. aggression, the lifting of a naval blockade and economic pressure, and the release of Iranian assets. Qatar's Foreign Ministry separately said its prime minister met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in New York on September 22 to discuss de-escalation and conditions for dialogue. Qatar's statement did not describe the contacts with U.S. envoys.
