Kenya's Interior Ministry said on Monday that the government had activated a national response under the National Contingency Plan ahead of anticipated El Niño rains. It said the coast guard, defence forces, police, Kenya Red Cross Society and National Youth Service were prepared for round-the-clock search and rescue where needed. Designated evacuation centres and a system to register displaced people had been established, while food stocks were ready for release in 10 priority counties. The ministry said the National Disaster Operations Centre would coordinate the response, with interventions scaled to the severity and geographic spread of the situation.
