Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of an archival exterior of Peru’s Jurado Nacional de Elecciones in Lima, with a streetlamp, pedestrian, asphalt road, metal fence and Peruvian flag; institutional context, not a depiction of the October 2026 election or alcohol-sales ban, rendered in warm ochre and slate-blue pastel strokes.

Peru’s nationwide prohibition on alcohol sales took effect at 8 a.m. local time on October 3, ahead of the October 4 regional and municipal elections. The National Jury of Elections says the restriction lasts until 8 a.m. on October 5, with more than 26 million eligible voters able to participate in the elections. Political meetings face restrictions beginning 48 hours before voting, while political propaganda is restricted during the preceding 24 hours. The electoral authority will deploy polling-place inspectors to check compliance with electoral rules and report incidents.
