New Zealand released four science investment plans on October 2 to guide public research funding for 2026–2031. Developed by Research Funding New Zealand and agreed by the Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology, they cover technology for prosperity, primary industries and the bioeconomy, environmental sustainability and resilience, and healthy people and a thriving society. The plans will guide existing government science investment, beginning with the Transition Research Fund, which is due to open shortly. They are scheduled for review in the second half of 2027.
