Japan beat North Korea 5–3 on penalties to win the Asian Games women’s football final on October 2 at Shizuoka Stadium Ecopa in Fukuroi, Japan, after a 2–2 draw following extra time. Mami Ueno put Japan ahead in the 32nd minute, before North Korea scored in the 47th and 69th minutes to take the lead. Hanon Nishio, who entered as a substitute in the 75th minute, equalized for Japan in the 86th. Neither side scored in either half of extra time, leaving the gold medal to be decided by the shootout.
