Pakistan’s information ministry said on Thursday that airstrikes on militant camps and hideouts at two locations in Afghanistan had initially killed 22 militants and destroyed weapons and ammunition. The ministry said precautions had prevented civilian collateral damage. Taliban government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid gave a different account: he said three houses in Kunar and Helmand provinces were destroyed, killing nine people, including women and children, and injuring 11 others. Neither side’s casualty figures or its account of the targets could be independently verified.
