The Reserve Bank of Australia's preliminary estimates show its commodity price index rose 1.4% in September on a monthly-average basis in Special Drawing Right terms, after a 0.3% rise in August. Rural, non-rural and base-metals subindices all increased, while the index rose 1.0% in Australian-dollar terms. Over the year, prices rose 15.5% in SDR terms and 6.6% in Australian-dollar terms, with gains across most commodities except iron ore, alumina and copper ore. The bank said the latest export-price estimates for iron ore, coking coal, thermal coal and liquefied natural gas were preliminary.
