Bangsamoro Holds First Parliamentary Election After Seven-Year Transition

Bangsamoro voters cast ballots on September 14 in the autonomous region’s first regular parliamentary election, ending seven years of interim rule. About 2.3 million registered voters could use 5,212 clustered precincts across 32 districts, 105 municipalities and three cities. They chose an 80-member Parliament comprising 40 regional-party, 32 district and eight sectoral representatives. The sectoral allocation includes seats for settlers, women, youth, traditional leaders and ulama. Parliament will select the chief minister, while elected members are due to take office on October 30.
