AfD Wins Saxony-Anhalt With 43.8%, Three Seats Short of Majority

Provisional official results from all 2,661 voting districts gave the Alternative for Germany 43.8% of second votes in Saxony-Anhalt's state election. The party won 39 of the 83 seats, leaving it three short of the 42 needed for an absolute majority. The Christian Democratic Union received 17.2% and 15 seats, while the Left, Social Democrats and Greens each won eight seats and the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance won five. Turnout reached 77.8%, up from 60.3% in 2021, as the AfD gained 23.0 percentage points from the previous election.
