Milei Sends Falklands Sovereignty Bill to Argentina’s Congress

Argentine President Javier Milei sent the National Sovereignty Defense Bill to Congress on Thursday, fulfilling a pledge made earlier this month. The proposal would repeal and replace Law 26.659 with tougher criminal penalties for unauthorized natural-resource activity in areas claimed by Argentina, and extend liability to shareholders and suppliers. It would also create a National Security System whose council would coordinate diplomatic, economic, defense, legal, intelligence, critical-infrastructure and sovereignty functions. Milei asked lawmakers to give the measure maximum priority and speed; the bill has been submitted but not enacted.
