Xi Arrives in Washington for State Visit as Trump Greets Him at Andrews

Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, landed at Joint Base Andrews outside Washington on the afternoon of September 23, beginning a state visit at President Donald Trump's invitation. Trump and first lady Melania Trump greeted them at the foot of the plane, where a red carpet, a 21-member honor guard and a flyover by two B-1 bombers marked the arrival. It is Xi's first state visit to the U.S. capital in more than a decade and follows Trump's May visit to China. A White House arrival ceremony and state dinner are scheduled for September 24, amid tensions over trade, artificial intelligence, the U.S. war with Iran and Taiwan.
