Two South African Police Officers Killed Responding to Libode Shop Attack

South African police said two officers, aged 51 and 30, were killed after responding to an attempted robbery at a spaza shop in Ziphunzana Location, Libode, near Mthatha. The officers served with the Mthatha National Intervention Unit and Public Order Policing Unit, and both of their service pistols were missing when they were found with gunshot wounds. Investigators found a cordless grinder allegedly used on the shop’s burglar door and opened murder, police-attack, firearm-robbery and attempted-business-robbery cases. Eastern Cape police activated a 72-hour multidisciplinary plan to find those responsible.
