Turkish Justice Minister Akın Gürlek said on October 6 that 85 suspects had been jailed and legal action taken against 207 people in an investigation into alleged manipulation of investment funds and stocks. Speaking in Ankara, he said authorities had frozen assets and taken measures to prevent their transfer or concealment. Gürlek said five people had voluntarily returned money through accounts at the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund, while judicial proceedings had begun to recover money sent to Switzerland. He said repayment could reduce penalties but would not close criminal cases.
