Romania Reports Two Dead and 11 Rescued After Ship Sinks in Black Sea

Romania’s Interior Ministry reported two people dead and eleven crew members rescued after a commercial vessel caught fire and sank in the Black Sea on October 5. The ship was in Romania’s exclusive economic zone, approximately 30 nautical miles south of Sfântul Gheorghe, when the Coast Guard received an alert around 11 a.m. local time. MRCC Constanța launched a search-and-rescue operation, with a Coast Guard vessel coordinating the response at the scene. A General Aviation Inspectorate helicopter hoisted injured people aboard for emergency medical care, while Coast Guard vessels and the helicopter continued operations.
