Israel's Attorney General Urges Court to Disqualify Sami Abu Shehadeh

Israel's Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara and State Attorney Amit Aisman urged the Supreme Court on Tuesday to approve the disqualification of Balad leader Sami Abu Shehadeh from the 2026 Knesset election. In a position submitted ahead of an October 1 hearing, they argued that an article he published on October 8, 2023 expressed support for Hamas's armed struggle, and said his later explanations were incomplete. Those are the officials' allegations in pending election litigation; the Supreme Court has not ruled. A nine-justice panel is due to hear appeals concerning the election disqualification decisions on Thursday.
