Mexico Extends Hurricane Polo Warning to Bahía Kino as Landfall Nears

Mexico's government upgraded the hurricane watch from Bahía Kino to Guaymas to a warning as Hurricane Polo approached Baja California Sur, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said in its 06:00 UTC September 28 advisory. The mainland hurricane warning now runs from Bahía Kino to Huatabampito. Polo had maximum sustained winds of 120 mph (195 km/h) and was centered 260 miles west of Cabo San Lucas, moving north at 10 mph. Forecasters expected the storm to approach western Baja California Sur on Monday, cross the peninsula that evening, and near northwestern mainland Mexico late Monday or early Tuesday; heavy rain could cause dangerous flooding and mudslides.
