Kosovo Specialist Chambers judges convicted former president Hashim Thaçi of arbitrary detention, cruel treatment, torture and murder and sentenced him to 25 years. The court found 385 people unlawfully or arbitrarily detained, 49 subjected to cruel treatment, 303 tortured and 96 murdered at sites in Kosovo and northern Albania. Kadri Veseli received 18 years, Rexhep Selimi 13 years and Jakup Krasniqi 25 years, all with credit for time served. All four were acquitted on six crimes-against-humanity counts; the first-instance judgment is not final, and defense lawyers announced appeals.
