Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of a biochemist in white protective coveralls and blue gloves crouching beside a metal Ebola laboratory machine with orange hoses, with a uniformed person in the doorway behind him, rendered in warm ochre and slate-blue pastel strokes; archival February 2015 laboratory decontamination in Zwedru, Liberia, offered as response context, not a depiction of the October 2026 Kenyan cases or patients.

Kenya's Ministry of Health confirmed four additional Ebola cases on October 17, bringing the total to seven, including the first patient who died. The new patients are a close male relative of that patient and three health workers who treated him in hospital. All four developed fever while in quarantine, tested positive and are receiving supportive care. The ministry said 128 of 130 identified contacts had been traced and quarantined, with efforts continuing to locate the remaining two. It said there was no evidence of community transmission, while warning that more cases could emerge during contacts' 21-day monitoring period.
