IDF Troops Disperse Clashes Over Sheep-Theft Claims in Southern Hebron Hills

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of an archival 2007 view of Hebron city, with foreground trees and laundry, a central domed building and densely packed hillside buildings, rendered in warm ochre and slate-blue pastel strokes; geographic context, not a depiction of Ma’on or the clashes.

Israeli residents of the southern Hebron Hills alleged that Palestinians stole a flock of sheep near Ma’on and said clashes began after they went to a village. IDF troops arrived and fired into the air to disperse the confrontation, which included stone-throwing. Palestinians offered the opposing account, alleging that Israelis had stolen sheep from their village, and released footage described as showing Israelis arriving on ATVs carrying long guns. Security forces were investigating the incident; the report did not establish which theft account was correct.
