Colombian Foreign Minister Omar Bula Escobar announced on October 14 that his country had formally requested withdrawal from the Hague Group during a reception at Israel’s Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem. The announcement followed the opening of Colombia’s embassy in the city. The group seeks diplomatic, legal and economic action against Israel over the Gaza war. Bula rejected efforts to isolate Israel, pledged stronger bilateral cooperation and criticized the previous Colombian government’s response to Hamas’s October 7 massacre. Colombia restored diplomatic relations with Israel in August 2026 after former president Gustavo Petro severed them in 2024.
