Japan’s Shin Ohashi, 17, Sets 200m Breaststroke World Record at Asian Games

Japan’s Shin Ohashi, 17, set a world record in the men’s 200m breaststroke on September 24, winning Asian Games gold in 2 minutes 4.83 seconds at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre. The time broke the previous record of 2:05.48, set by China’s Qin Haiyang at the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka, and made Ohashi the first man to swim the event in under 2:05. Kyrgyzstan’s Denis Petrashov took silver in 2:08.67 and South Korea’s Cho Sung-jae won bronze in 2:08.76. “The world record was my goal so I’m very happy to get it,” Ohashi said.
