ACT Assembly Censures Tara Cheyne Over Reduced Library Hours

The Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly voted 13–10 to censure City and Government Services Minister Tara Cheyne over reduced public-library hours. Liberals, Greens and independent Fiona Carrick supported the motion after a seatbelt-fines provision was removed, leaving Sunday library closures as its basis. Opposition leader Mark Parton said Cheyne ignored a June Assembly request to pause the cuts, while Cheyne said she had explained the operational constraints. The censure carries no direct penalty; Cheyne said weekend access at Kippax and Erindale could be prioritised from July 2027, with an evaluation due by March.
