Nepal Police Rescue 64-Year-Old Woman Alive From Flood Ruins on Day 11

Nepal Police rescued 64-year-old Chandika Shrestha alive from her family’s flood-damaged four-storey house in Betrawati, Nuwakot, on the disaster’s 11th day. A team led by Police Inspector Mahendra Darnal heard a voice while searching the roof, opened a small hole, and then broke through a wall to reach her. Local residents and other security agencies assisted the extraction. A Nepali Army helicopter flew Shrestha to Birendra Military Hospital in Kathmandu; police said her condition was moderate and that she could speak.
