Brazil’s Unemployment Rate Falls to 5.3%, Lowest July Reading Since 2012

Brazil’s unemployment rate fell to 5.3% in the three months through July, the lowest reading for that period since the national series began in 2012. The rate was down from 5.8% in February–April and 5.6% a year earlier. The employed population reached a record 103.3 million, while the number of unemployed people declined to 5.8 million. Informality stood at 37.5%, representing 38.8 million workers, according to the Continuous National Household Sample Survey figures released on August 27.
