New Zealand's National Party Rules Out New Taxes, Dropping Bank and Accommodation Levies

New Zealand's governing National Party will not introduce new taxes if it wins the 7 November general election, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and finance spokesperson Nicola Willis said at a campaign launch in Auckland. The pledge drops a bank levy Willis announced in this year's budget and a mooted accommodation levy on short-term rentals, which she said could not work without raising costs for travellers. Willis declined to rule out increases to existing taxes, saying only that National was promising no new ones. Luxon said the commitment would be written into any coalition agreement. Labour, which released its fiscal strategy the same morning, said ruling out revenue forces spending cuts.
