Camilo Escalona has died. I imagine him at 16, aware that the popular government had to be defended from among the secondary-school students. I think of him during the dictatorship, in Chile, doing the hardest thing, which was organizing when doing so put his life at risk. I read about him in the first years of the transition, pushing against the limits imposed by the entrenched powers he always confronted. I remember him when we were young, with that mixture of anger and understanding toward our criticisms. I see him firmly supporting our government, when it would have been easier to sit on the sidelines. Yesterday, accompanied by his partner Jimena, I said goodbye to him, and I promised him that the new generations would know about his struggle and commitment, because thanks to him and his generation we are here. A compañero’s embrace to you and to the entire Socialist Party of Chile. My eternal respects.

I read about him in the first years of the transition, pushing the limits imposed by the de facto powers he always confronted. Yesterday, accompanied by his partner Jimena, I said goodbye to him, and I promised him that the new generations would know of his struggle and commitment, because thanks to him and his generation we are here. A hug, compañero, to you and to the entire Socialist Party of Chile. My eternal respect.
Translated from SpanishImplementing the gradual rollout of the 2025 reform, pensions automatically increase today for everyone over 75. Good news for so many older people who have built our homeland!
Translated from SpanishI congratulate deputy Gael Yeomans, who has been elected President of Frente Amplio. I spoke with her just now, and she knows that she can count on me during these intense times in this tremendous responsibility. A big hug, compañera! I congratulate and thank Constanza Martínez, who has led the party through key milestones in its history, such as the merger that gave life to FA, the elections, and the first ideological congress. A giant of a compañera, one of those indispensable people. Congratulations as well to everyone who has been elected to the national leadership, the regional leaderships, the Central Committee, and the various organizational posts. The task of building the Party and reclaiming, day by day, politics as an honest tool for social transformation, with conviction and hope, is a tremendous challenge in this era. We have to rise to the occasion. We carry on!
