Malaysia Grants Najib Conditional Pardon With House Arrest Until 2028

Malaysia’s Federal Territories Pardons Board said King Sultan Ibrahim approved a conditional pardon allowing former prime minister Najib Razak to serve his remaining prison term under house arrest until August 23, 2028. The arrangement takes effect only after Najib pays a RM50 million fine and remains subject to conditions whose breach would return him to prison. Najib has been imprisoned since August 2022 over the SRC International case involving RM42 million. A 2024 pardon had already reduced his 12-year sentence to six years and cut the original RM210 million fine to RM50 million.
