Donald Trump pledged a $5,000 “Trump Dividend” to every adult U.S. citizen if Republicans retain both the House and Senate in the November 3 midterm elections. Speaking at the Republican convention in Dallas, Trump did not explain how the payment would be implemented or whether he would seek congressional authorization. An estimate based on roughly 245 million adult citizens puts the cost above $1 trillion. The proposal was announced during a keynote speech lasting nearly two hours as Republicans presented their case for keeping control of Congress.
