Brazil Election Court Opens Lula, Flávio Bolsonaro and Zema Reviews; Santos Case Delayed

Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court opened virtual reviews at midnight Brasília time on August 31 for presidential registration applications from President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro and Romeu Zema, alongside their running mates. The electronic voting window runs through September 2, without an in-person session. Justice Dias Toffoli removed Renan Santos’s case from the docket for further examination of possible irregularities involving 18 social-media profiles disclosed by his ticket; no final ruling or new date has been issued. The court received 13 presidential applications, with first-round voting scheduled for October 4 and a possible runoff on October 25.
