Australia Announces A$5 Million for Nepal-China Flood Relief

Australia announced A$5 million in humanitarian aid for communities affected by the Nepal-China border floods. The package assigns A$2 million to the World Food Programme, A$2 million to Australian nongovernmental organizations through the Australian Humanitarian Partnership, and A$1 million to the Emergency Action Alliance. Foreign Minister Penny Wong and International Development Minister Anne Aly said the support would provide food, shelter, clean water, sanitation, medical care and locally led recovery. Australia also has consular officers in Kathmandu and plans to deploy three humanitarian specialists within 48 hours, while at least 39 Australians remain missing.
