U.S. Prepares to Revoke Up to 200,000 Visas Held by Asylum Applicants

The Trump administration is preparing to revoke B1 and B2 business and tourist visas held by up to 200,000 foreign nationals who applied for or are seeking asylum in the United States. Internal State Department documents and two U.S. officials indicate the review covers visas issued from 2016 through 2026, and the department said it is coordinating with the Department of Homeland Security. The revocations would not automatically trigger immediate deportation, but many pending asylum applicants would lose their visitor status. If carried out as planned, it would be the largest single mass visa revocation in U.S. history and would likely face legal challenges.
