Nigeria Opens Campaigning for January 2027 Presidential Election

Nigeria opened campaigning on August 19 for its January 16, 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections. President Bola Tinubu is seeking reelection against 18 opposition candidates, with former vice president Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress and former governor Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress among the leading challengers. Governorship elections are scheduled for February 6.
