Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Tuesday that trade talks with the United States can resume when Washington gets serious. He said a mutually beneficial agreement remains possible if it respects Canadian sovereignty, and urged U.S. officials to stop doing memes, throwing shade and trying to be tough. Carney said proposed U.S. terms would subordinate or wind down core Canadian industries. He identified autos, French-language and cultural protections, and attempted limits on Canada’s future trade agreements as obstacles, and said Canada would not accept those terms.
