China Removes Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli From State Military Commission

China's National People's Congress Standing Committee formally removed Zhang Youxia as vice-chairman of the state Central Military Commission and Liu Zhenli as a commission member on Friday. The vote came at the committee's closing meeting in Beijing's Great Hall of the People, attended by 150 members and chaired by Zhao Leji. China's Defense Ministry announced in January that both men were under investigation for suspected serious discipline and law violations. Zhang had also been a Politburo member, while Liu had served as chief of staff of the commission's Joint Staff Department.
