India Starts Targeted Onion Buffer Release as First Kanda Express Leaves Nashik

India began targeted onion releases from buffer stocks, sending the first Kanda Express train from Nashik to Delhi NCR and dispatching road supplies to 10 other cities. The government said NCCF, NAFED, Kendriya Bhandar and Safal will sell onions at ₹35 per kilogram through outlets and mobile vans. Procurement for the 2026–27 buffer has reached about 1.21 lakh metric tonnes toward a 2 lakh-tonne target. The Consumer Affairs Department said the all-India average retail onion price was ₹37.87 per kilogram on August 26 and that calibrated releases are intended to stabilize availability and prices.
