Nigeria Sets Two-Week First Niger Bridge Closure for Emergency Repairs

Nigeria's Federal Ministry of Works said it will fully close the First Niger Bridge from September 7 to 21 for emergency rehabilitation, replacing an earlier seven-day plan. Motorists will be diverted to the Second Niger Bridge via Obosi toward Asaba and destinations beyond. The ministry said deteriorated surfacing, vandalised expansion-joint steelwork, and missing structural nuts and bolts require repairs by contractor SKECC, including a roughly 40 mm asphalt wearing course. Day-and-night work will also install solar streetlights and CCTV, with signs, barriers and traffic-control personnel planned along the diversion.
