Japan’s Defense Ministry Releases First Iran-War Analysis for Security Rewrite

Japan’s Defense Ministry publicly released its first analysis of the Iran war, describing artificial intelligence, mass drone use and cyber operations as a “new way of warfare.” It said U.S. forces used AI to accelerate target and attack-method selection, while Iran used large drone numbers and the de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz to exploit geography asymmetrically. The ministry said Japan should develop lower-cost counter-drone measures, adopt AI faster and use its island geography defensively. The findings will inform revisions to Japan’s three principal national-security documents due by year-end.
