Iran Warns Countries Joining U.S. Economic War Will Be Treated as Enemies

Iranian Supreme National Security Council secretary Mohsen Rezaei warned countries not to join new U.S. economic measures against Iran, saying Tehran would treat participants as enemies and target their interests. In an August 22 interview with state broadcaster IRIB, he also threatened oil-shipping routes outside the Strait of Hormuz if neighboring states joined the campaign. The remarks followed U.S. promises of an unprecedented new effort to isolate Iran's economy.
