Brazil Unveils R$2.3 Billion AI Infrastructure Package and Supercomputer

Brazil's federal government unveiled about R$2.3 billion in artificial-intelligence infrastructure initiatives on August 20, including a new high-performance supercomputer planned for Macaíba in Rio Grande do Norte. The government estimated the machine at about R$1.06 billion, while the public selection for the integrated system lists a R$959 million contract value. The National Laboratory for Scientific Computing developed the technical specifications and will guide implementation using resources from the national science and technology fund. The project also requires technology transfer, Brazilian workforce training and support for locally developed AI software and models.
