Israel’s Attorney General Clears Fuel-Tax Cut to NIS 7.75 a Liter

Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara cleared Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich’s temporary cut in gasoline excise duty, allowing the proposal to advance despite the election period. The planned reduction would lower self-service 95-octane gasoline by NIS 0.50, from NIS 8.25 to NIS 7.75 per liter, after Smotrich signs the order and completes the required process. The measure is due to expire on October 31, four days after Israel’s October 27 election. Finance Ministry legal adviser Dudi Koppel cited a similar 2022 precedent, while implementation was expected within 48 hours.
