No-Confidence Motion Sends Solomon Islands PM Home From Pacific Summit

Solomon Islands Prime Minister Matthew Wale cut short his trip to Palau and began returning to Honiara after Manasseh Maelanga filed a notice of no confidence. Clerk of Parliament Jefferson Halu confirmed the notice was signed by Maelanga and must undergo a seven-day notice period before it can be placed on the business paper. Wale had arrived for the Pacific Islands Forum leaders meeting and left early Sunday, while Foreign Minister Rick Hou and Peter Kenilorea Jr were expected to stay for the handover of the forum chairmanship. The challenge comes three months after Wale took office.
