Israel Screens UNRWA Documentary for Diplomats at UN Headquarters

Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, said dozens of diplomats attended a screening at UN headquarters on Monday of UNraveling UNRWA, an investigative documentary about the Palestinian refugee agency. Danon described it as the first screening there and said the film addressed alleged corruption and Hamas infiltration of UNRWA. “The truth about UNRWA is coming to light,” Danon said in his announcement. The filmmakers’ synopsis says the documentary examines the agency’s history, the aftermath of October 7, allegations involving employees and kidnappings, donor funding decisions and Israeli legislation severing ties with the agency. Those allegations are presented as the subjects of the film. The film’s participant page includes former UNRWA commissioner-general Peter Hansen, former legal adviser James G. Lindsay, historian Benny Morris and former Israeli legislator Einat Wilf. It describes Hansen as defending UNRWA and opposing its dismantlement. In an earlier statement dated June 11, 2026, UNRWA announced the immediate termination of 70 Gaza employees, citing operational safety and security. The agency said the measure was not disciplinary and did not validate allegations against the employees. It also said it had requested evidence from Israel and had received no response as of that statement. That account preceded the documentary screening and was not a response to Danon’s announcement.
