Israel's Military Prosecution filed an indictment on Thursday, October 29, against an IDF soldier accused of passing sensitive military information to Iranian operatives over approximately a year. The soldier was arrested in September following a joint Shin Bet, police and military investigation. The indictment alleges that he knowingly maintained contact with an Iranian handler, carried out assigned tasks and received payments through cryptocurrency wallets. The charges include providing information to the enemy with intent to harm state security, providing information for the enemy's benefit and contact with a foreign agent. According to the allegations, the information included details about his unit, military readiness and emergency mobilization procedures, as well as military-base locations. He is also accused of photographing interceptor missiles, military vehicles and American refueling aircraft parked at an airport in Israel. Investigators allege that he passed personal details of fellow soldiers and commanders while knowing that the handler would try to recruit them. The alleged contact also included discussions about concealing their communications. The handler instructed him to install malicious communication applications and suggested obtaining a basic mobile phone and a handgun, according to the account of the investigation. The soldier was allegedly offered $200,000 to travel to Iran; the offer was distinct from the cryptocurrency payments he is accused of receiving. These allegations form part of the prosecution's case, rather than findings of guilt.
