Qantas Ground Workers Schedule 24-Hour Strikes Across Australia

Transport Workers’ Union members employed by Qantas subsidiaries will hold 24-hour strikes on September 23 in Victoria and September 24 elsewhere across Australia. The union says freight, Australia Post shipments and some QantasLink services may be disrupted in a dispute over pay, job security, safety and workforce fragmentation. About 650 employees are involved, mostly in Qantas Freight, while a smaller Sydney group services QantasLink. Qantas says mainline and international flights are not directly serviced by these workers, contingency plans are in place, and negotiations continue through the Fair Work Commission.
