One Nation Claims First WA Lower House Seat in Secret Harbour

One Nation candidate Luke Herdegen is projected to win the Secret Harbour by-election, giving the party its first lower-house seat in Western Australia. The seat was called a little over four hours after counting began, while Labor had not conceded by the latest election-night update. At 10 p.m. local time, indicative primary votes stood at 35.8% for One Nation, 25.0% for Labor and 17.4% for the Liberals; the two-party count put Herdegen ahead 53.9% to 46.1%. Postal voting closes on September 3, so the official commission says election-night figures remain indicative.
